What's going on?

I know I've been a bit quiet lately, sorry about that! But I've been very busy. I've decided to start my own little business selling quilted items. So I've been making plans about what to make to sell and doing lots of research about starting your own business. So much to do! I've set up a Facebook page which you can find here Sonja's Stitchery. Pop over and give me a like and you'll see more photo's and in time more info about my business launch. Don't forget that this is all a work in progress so please be patient, there will be lots of goodies in the not to distant future! I know this short and sweet but I will be back soon.

Happy Monday!

Hi again,

So it's the start of another week. I've been a busy bee over the weekend. As I said before, I currently have 5 quilts on the go, so I've been trying to get as far ahead on them as possible, however I'm waiting for Mr Postie to arrive before I can actually complete any of them.

I have also been making some very cute drawstring bags, ideal for make-up or travelling, crafty bits and pieces, all sorts really. I've made hubster a couple as he works away a lot and he loves them. I've also  done lots of cutting of little projects ready to sew today. I'm struggling a little bit if I'm honest, I have too many ideas. It's keeping me awake at night, and it also means I have lots of sewing to do! I have so many things on my to do list, and I want to share them all on here, now! But doing that means I'll have to nothing to write about later on, so I will just have to be patient.

Katie has taken some pictures over the weekend so I shall pop them on later.

Have a good week

Memory Quilt

I'd like to share with you one of the projects I'm currently working on that is very dear to me. My gorgeous hubster was in the British Army for 22 years, and during that time he collected many t-shirts from different tours of duty which he kept. When I saw them I knew they had to be made into something and memorialised in some way, so I've made them into a quilt. It has turned out much larger than I anticipated and is still not quite complete. The top is almost finished and I'm now working on a pieced backing. It's not perfect by any means, some of the lines don't quite match up, but considering I'm new to the patchwork and quilting game, it's not that bad. So I hope you like it.

Once I'd figured out how to stabilise the t-shirt material it was all fairly straight-forward. I've just used whole and 4-patch blocks with black sashing. Will update once all finished!

Welcome!!

Hi, welcome to my new blog!! I'm so excited!

I am a new quilter and blogger, driven to it by illness and have quickly become a little obsessed! I have cross-stitched for many years and always enjoyed crafty things. Everything I know is self taught through books and more recently through online tutorials. I have spent many hours trawling the internet for fabrics and watching tutorials, and I have learned that I am definitely better at learning by watching than by following a pattern. They seem to tie me in knots. There are so many fantastic blogs out there that can take you through projects step by step and in future posts I will share with you my favourites.

My ultimate dream is to be able to sew and create stuff full time and maybe have my own little fabric shop, so I can spread the joy with others. Although I live in a fairly big city in the South of England, there seems to be a severe lack of places to buy scrummy fabric without driving for an hour first, hence the need to spend many hours online searching. So I hope to share with you the places I have found (once I've sought their permission) so that you don't have to spend hours online and can just sew instead!

So please watch this space! I'm off to take some photo's of pretty things to share with you.
